Siemens To Supply Gas Turbines And Generators To Kansas Jameson Energy Center

Siemens Energy has been awarded a contract by Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA) for the supply of three SGT-400 gas turbines and generators that will be installed at the Jameson Energy Center in western Kansas.

The three combustion turbines will add approximately 27 megawatts (MW) power to the Garden City, Kansas area. The overall installation and construction will be managed by the engineering company Sega, Inc. The project is expected to be operational in early 2014.

"The SGT-400 gas turbine is a blend of 25 years’ experience and the latest combustion technologies," said Hans Holmstroem, CEO of the Business Unit Industrial Power at Siemens Energy. "The turbine benefits from a simple cycle efficiency of up to 35 percent as well as a high availability ensuring security of supply. To date, Siemens has sold 255 turbines of this type which have reached more than 2 million equivalent operating hours in total."

"The turbines and generators are configured on trailers that can be quickly transported to and installed at the site. With this contract KMEA shows its confidence placed in Siemens as a supplier of innovative infrastructure solutions," said Bob Poehling, General Manager of KMEA. "This project represents the first generating assets that KMEA will own. The plant needs to come on-line quickly in order to support peak power needs in the area."

The Garden City, Kansas area has a fast growing population. With projects like the Jameson Energy Center, KMEA and Siemens are providing for a secure peak power supply to serve the region’s communities and industry.
