Global Oil and Fuel Theft Incident Map
Ahead of the Oil and Fuel Supply Chain Security Summit, Defence iQ & Oil and Gas iQ teamed up to give insight into the diversity of the illegal activities happening around the world.
With annual worldwide oil and fuel thefts estimated to be worth $133 billion here are some of the major global incidents in the map:
- Nigeria- over 45,000 incidents that involved breaches to its oil pipelines took place in Nigeria from 2001 to 2019
- Saudi Arabia- Houthi rebels reportedly attacked two major oil facilities in Saudi Arabia in September 2019, forcing the country to half oil production
- Mexico- In January 2019, a fuel pipeline exploded in the town of Tlahuelilpan killing over 100 people after an attempted pipeline theft
- UK- in 2019 suffered from both Cyber data attacks related to fuel stores and pipeline theft
