Jan Shumate

Director, Worldwide Engineering and Construction Services & Solutions Eastman Chemical Company

Jan Shumate is the Director of Worldwide Engineering & Construction’s Services and Solutions Organization for Eastman Chemical Company. Jan leads the Eastman corporate Manufacturing Automation Transformation Team and has strategic oversight for the SEIGA (Seamless EPCOM Integrated Global Access) Digital Innovation team. These teams utilize breakthrough technology and leverage system integration to provide superior Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations & Maintenance solutions while rapidly accelerating implementation and adoption of new technologies, automated operations, and automated services in alignment with Eastman’s corporate specialty materials strategy. SEIGA was awarded the Chemical Engineering and Power Engineering magazine’s Game Changer Innovation Award in 2020. Jan also has responsibility for global engineering services, technology project engineering, annual capital project execution, and compliance and inspection services. Ms. Shumate holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Jan is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Tennessee and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. She was honored with the Manufacturing STEP Ahead award and the Purdue Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Alumni Award in 2016 Jan serves on the Steering Committee for Joint Industry Practice Committee 36 of the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers. This joint industry practice committee is focused on creation of digital nomenclature harmonization and implementation standards. She also serves as a member of the Construction Industry Institute’s Sector Leadership representing the Technology & Innovation Committee. Within the community, Jan is an ardent supporter of STEM programs at both the high school and collegiate level. She has served on the Industrial Committee of the United Way of Greater Kingsport and led Eastman’s annual United Way campaign. She currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Kingsport Community Foundation.
