1:45 PM IAM in Action: OPPD’s Line Sensor Deployment for Grid Reliability

Omaha Public Power District (OPPD), one of the largest public power utilities in the United States, serves more than 900,000 people across the Omaha metropolitan area. As part of its Power the Future 2050 vision, OPPD is working toward delivering perfect power - a grid defined by exceptional resiliency, reliability, and situational awareness. Achieving this future requires advanced technologies capable of monitoring real‑time load behaviour and detecting the growing presence of distributed energy resources across the system.

To support this transformation, OPPD has launched a comprehensive overhead and underground line sensor program focused on improving visibility across its worst‑performing distribution circuits. This enhanced visibility empowers Distribution Operations teams to make faster, more informed decisions when managing the grid. Beyond capacity monitoring and outage restoration, these sensors also enable predictive analytics that help identify emerging issues before they become outages.

Maurice Kimsey II will share his insights on the goals, journey and current status of deployment of the overhead and underground line sensors and results to-date. The session will also cover the overall technology solution, including predictive analytics, and how it can be easily integrated into ADMS as well as other distribution operation systems.

Check out the incredible speaker line-up to see who will be joining Maurice.
