Mike is a Professional Geoscientist (with APEGA) with over 20 years’ experience in Canada’s Resource Sector having worked in both mining and the oil and gas industries. He has elected to focus his career in the two complimentary disciplines of HSE and Operational Excellence. Mr. Baker graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo in 1993 specializing in Geology and Business. This was followed by completing his Masters of Science degree in hydrogeology and geochemistry in 1996 also at the University of Waterloo. Mr. Baker started his professional career helping to build the Diavik Diamond Mine Project in the Northwest Territories. Since 2002, he has worked as a staff member of Shell (Canada) supporting many parts of the business portfolio including oil sands mining, oil sands upgrading, insitu heavy oil, natural gas, and most recently light tight oil.
