Learning is a cultural act and it implies crossing many barriers (cultural, generational, hierarchical and sometimes geographical). In the oil and gas industry, ensuring sustainable learning and capability development is particularly challenging today after the recruiting peaks of 2004/2008, the high turnover subsequently experienced by many players, the shortage of technical talent, the increased importance of non conventional E&P and the exposure of companies to safety and environmental risks. This presentation will address this challenge, in the process allowing you to consider:
- How does your company learn?
- How can the form and the content of your current learning and knowledge transfer be enhanced?
- How can effective learning support accelerated access to autonomy and responsibilities?
This webinar was one of 20 high-level webinars delivered as part of the Oil & Gas Capability Summit 2011. SBC clients can gain access to each of these presentations – along with unique action point summaries – at an exclusive rate. Please contact Timothy.Haidar@iqpc.co.uk for more information.

it seems strange to me that the oil and gas business specifically (with it's traditional boom and bust cycle) hasn't invested more time and resources into the challenge of retaining knowledge from its departing experienced staff. i know these organisations are large and complex, but surely this is as important as HSE or Asset Integrity to management and should be prioiritised as such?
