Peter Muehlebach has made the trip from Oklahoma workover rig to Chord Energy's AI & Data Analytics leadership, a fun journey that has cultivated a first-hand appreciation for all facets of oil and gas operations, from pipe wrenches to large language models.
After a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Kansas, Peter cut his teeth working on workover rigs and frac crews in Oklahoma. From there he moved to North Dakota, supporting production operations as an engineer. He then transitioned into reservoir engineering where, well before Claude Code, he used Python to build a tool that shaped well-spacing and completion designs across Chord's Bakken acreage.
Today Peter manages Chord Energy's AI & Data Analytics team. As an engineering manager, he'd already pushed his team toward Python and SQL to automate workflows and ground decisions in data. Now he's striving to evolve Chord's early, genuine enthusiasm for AI into a truly AI-native workforce that builds bleeding-edge use cases and scales them company-wide for best-in-class value.
