Canada is currently the 6th largest producer of oil in the word and the world’s 3rd largest producer of natural gas. Located on the East coast, the Albert oil shale averages 100 l/t of shale oil and has potential for recovery of oil and co-combustion with coke for power generation.

The Athabasca Oil Sands of northeastern Alberta, Canada are located in the McMurray Formation, and consist of a mixture of crude bitumen, silica sand, clay minerals, and water. This 141,000 square kilometre is the single largest known reservoir of crude bitumen in the world and is set to produce 3.3 million barrels per day by 2028.
